From the President: 
 
I am privileged to serve this year as President of the Rotary Club of San Carlos; the town’s leading service Club.  In its 63-year history, this Club has done amazing things in the community and around the world.  We are committed to raising funds and redistributing them back into the community where needed.  Most recently, the Club awarded over $20,000 in college scholarships and purchased new trash cans for the downtown area, among many other projects. 
 
Rotary International was established over 100 years ago in Chicago, Il., for the sole purpose of philanthropy, with the primary goal of assisting those in need.  Internationally, the organization is very close to eradicating polio from the face of the earth.  We are so close and will not stop until the job is done.  In fact, the remaining one percent will be the most challenging.  But, working together with the World Health Organization and more recently, with The Bill Gates Foundation, we will succeed.   Beyond polio, the next international project is unknown at this time but we are certain it will have a global impact.
 
This Rotary Club is active and has been noticed at the District level.  We were recently recognized with five awards, including Best Club of the Year!   This award was received because of the dedication and commitment of the members that make up the Club.  We have a lot of fun and it shows.  Some of our projects last year included sorting food at Second Harvest Food Bank, cleaning Laurel and ancillary downtown streets, planting flowers at parks, volunteering at holiday events and distributing dictionaries to every third grader in San Carlos.
